2023 Dahlia Season: A Reflection

Rebecca started growing dahlias in 2016 and almost gave up on them because they were so difficult to grow well!

After many seasons of trials and tribulations, we finally dialed in our production methodologies during the 2021 season. Dahlias are NOT for the faint of heart, let me tell you!!

However, the years of effort were certainly worth it. Dahlias are now one of the most important crops that we grow on our farm (as well as the most labor-intensive): they start blooming during the time of year when most of our summer annuals are singing their end of season swan song. Unlike our summer annuals, Dahlias ramp up their flowering when the temperatures drop and the days shorten!

We have SEVEN THOUSAND dahlias planted this season, so you can expect incredible and abundant harvests now through late October!

Check out some photos below of our favorite varieties this year, shot by our friend smallhand.us.
